Anomalous chiral magnetic effect in time reversal symmetry breaking Weyl semimetals

چکیده

We propose a mechanism to generate dissipationless current in time reversal symmetry breaking Weyl semimetals through the anomalous chiral magnetic effect (ACME). The ACME is induced by imbalance and flows along direction of nodes separation momentum space. In contrast effect, not related anomaly does require external field. presence parallel electric fields, gives rise an antisymmetric linear magnetoresistance Hall as well planar conductivity, which we estimate be observable.

When Chiral Photons Meet Chiral Fermions: Photoinduced Anomalous Hall Effects in Weyl Semimetals.

The Weyl semimetal is characterized by three-dimensional linear band touching points called Weyl nodes. These nodes come in pairs with opposite chiralities. We show that the coupling of circularly polarized photons with these chiral electrons generates a Hall conductivity without any applied magnetic field in the plane orthogonal to the light propagation. This phenomenon comes about because wit...

Quantum anomalous Hall effect in time-reversal-symmetry breaking topological insulators.

The quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE), the last member of Hall family, was predicted to exhibit quantized Hall conductivity σ(yx) = e2/h without any external magnetic field. The QAHE shares a similar physical phenomenon with the integer quantum Hall effect (QHE), whereas its physical origin relies on the intrinsic topological inverted band structure and ferromagnetism. Since the QAHE does no...

Anomalous Chiral Symmetry Breaking above the QCD Phase Transition

We study the anomalous breaking of UA(1) symmetry just above the QCD phase transition for zero and two flavors of quarks, using a staggered fermion, lattice discretization. The properties of the QCD phase transition are expected to depend on the degree of UA(1) symmetry breaking in the transition region. For the physical case of two flavors, we carry out extensive simulations on a 16 × 4 lattic...

Quantized circular photogalvanic effect in Weyl semimetals

The circular photogalvanic effect (CPGE) is the part of a photocurrent that switches depending on the sense of circular polarization of the incident light. It has been consistently observed in systems without inversion symmetry and depends on non-universal material details. Here we find that in a class of Weyl semimetals (for example, SrSi2) and three-dimensional Rashba materials (for example, ...

Electromagnetic Signatures of the Chiral Anomaly in Weyl Semimetals.

Weyl semimetals are predicted to realize the three-dimensional axial anomaly first discussed in particle physics. The anomaly leads to unusual transport phenomena such as the chiral magnetic effect in which an applied magnetic field induces a current parallel to the field. Here we investigate diagnostics of the axial anomaly based on the fundamental equations of axion electrodynamics. We find t...
